UN Rushes Aid As Cold Threatens Peruvian Livestock

The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has provided urgently needed medical supplies to poor farmers in the Peruvian highlands whose livestock are suffering as a result of a severe unseasonable cold spell, known locally as “El friaje.”

Defence Worker Jailed 5 Years For Heroin Smuggling

Michael Doig (24) of Tillicoultry, Clackmannanshire, was stopped and searched by RAF police as he prepared to board a flight from Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, and was found to have close to one kilogram of heroin in his baggage.

UN Border Assessment Team Ends Lebanon Mission

War Grave Plans Announced For Fromelles WW1 Dead

The British and Australian Governments have announced plans to re-bury the World War One dead found at a mass grave in Fromelles, France. The soldiers from the two countries, believed to number up to 400, will be re-buried in individual graves.

WFP Lauds Calls To Revamp U.S. Food Crisis Policy

The UN World Food Programme has praised a new report by a Washington-based think-tank which calls for the US to take a fresh strategic approach to the global food crisis. “This challenge cannot be solved without US leadership,” said WFP’s Josette Sheeran.
